I've just received 4 newly-issued CDs in Pearl's series of 'Keyboard
wizards of the Gershwin era'. They are very good!
There are individual CDs for Zez Confrey and Raie da Costa, a disc for
Constance Mering, Vee Lawnhurst and Muriel Pollock in various
combinations, and another with Roy Bargy, Rube Bloom and Frank Banta
solos.
All are interesting, especially as they have quite a number of pieces
which were also issued on roll. Well worth considering if you like pop
music of the mid 1920s.
My favourite? Well, it just has to be Raie da Costa - who never made
rolls, more's the pity. The Mering/Pollock duets are quite something as
well.
