I am looking for somebody who could provide detailed information on a
Harmonium, built by Prince and Co, Buffalo NY, in the 1850th. The
instrument is labeled " No. 20,522 / IMPROVED MELODEON / MANUFACTURED BY
/ PRINCE & CO / PATENTED, DEC. 28th, 1846 ".
Dear Christian:
Welcome to the wonderful world of Prince Organ owners. Prince & Company (or
George A. Prince & Co.) was located at 200 Main Street in Buffalo, New York in
1846; Niagara & Maryland Streets in 1851; and later on Pearl Street. In 1849,
Prince had 150 workmen and produced 75 to 80 instruments per week according to
contemporary reports. You do realize that some allowance be made for 19th
century puffery. Your instrument, No. 20,522, was built around 1857-1858.
Hope this information is of some help to you. Should you have any questions,
please feel free to e-mail me.
