Gutted and Restored at Steinway Hall
By Damon Atchison

I was at Steinway Hall in Manhattan a few weeks ago. I went in
looking for players.

They said they had none and that they were "too hard to get parts
for," so they're always gutted at the factory for what they called
"restoration". Their understanding of this word is foreign to me.

Anyway, they said they had a completely restored used-to-be player
grand in their facility. It's probably very expensive, but it was
restored at a Steinway factory. I just thought some of you out there
with loose mechanisms may be interested.
