I realize this is off-topic but I need some help. I have a Wurlitzer
closed-hole flute which I need to re-pad and regulate for my daughter
who is starting 5th grade band this year. At the prices I have been
quoted for a re-pad and "regulation", around $200, we might as well buy
a new student flute (around $300 mail order).
My problem is, what material is suitable for re-padding a flute? I look
at it as a low pressure, very soft gasket. Would neoprene or Buna-N
gasket material work? (Yes, I am an experimenter!) Also, what is
involved in regulation -- is it merely achieving a uniform pad-to-hole
distance, or height, and setting the pads parallel to the hole?
Any help would be appreciated.
If all you have to add is "You are a dang fool to attempt this!",
just Hush!

[ Woodwind players often carry spare pads (some type of leather?)

[ is needed to seal the hole squarely and simultaneously with
