I understand that it takes more time and money to replace old pouches,
but consider this: If you take a pouch that is 85 or more years old
and put it back under the same stress that it was designed to do you
are only asking for trouble. Leather work-hardens with age. It does
no good at all sealing old pouch leather, it often makes the leather
rot faster and/or stiffens it.
Do yourself a favor, Albert: replace those pouches, unless you prefer
sluggish valves as opposed to quick responsive ones! I have tried that
method and found only that we had to tear it right back down and do it
over again. If we had done it "right" the first time we would have not
wasted all that time and money.
So, take it from some one that has been there: "Do it right the first
time and you wont have to redo it!"
Best Regards
