Here's some more info that may help in the identification of this
instrument.
1. The serial number on the Welte is 197038
2. Size is 41 wide, 43 high and 26 deep
3. Case is walnut
4. My piano tech says it needs a complete redo of tubing and bellows
but piano is good. Probably will cost about $2000 to $2,500 to restore
the pneumatics. Case could use some work as well. He says he has not
heard or seen such a piano before and thinks it might be a custom job.
5. My neighbor, who is in her 70's, remembers the piano since she
was a small child.
Again, my neighbor is very curious about the history/rarity of the
Kramer/Welte miniature piano and the potential value to determine
whether she wants to fix it up or not. Any help would sure be
appreciated.
Thanks,
Gerry Bay
PS: Robbie, I have some pictures of the street organ I saw in Athens.
I could scan them and email them to you if you're interested.
[ Swell! Please send the images and a description to Jody at
[ <kravitz@foxtail.com>, and he will place them at the Pictures site.
[ Thanks! -- Robbie
