Irradiating Mold on Piano Rolls
By Ray Fairfield

Regarding Jeffrey Borinsky's irradiating moldy piano rolls, I would
like to suggest that if you indeed are lucky enough to have access to
a high-level gamma source, as he did, it would indeed kill all living
organisms on the roll. And, since the irradiation source is gamma
rays, and not neutrons, no atomic changes to the roll materials will
occur.

The irradiation will only kill the living organisms; it will not
remove the mold. I would not expect any long term ill effects on the
roll or the paper. A great idea, but very few of us will be able to
pull this one off.

Regards

Ray Fairfield
