Thanks all, for the warm welcome. :-) Latest update on the Brussels
1912 Steck 65-note player.
I finally managed to get in touch again with the guy who sold me the
piano 17 years ago. Unfortunately he kind of retired from the piano
restoration business and he's in motorcycle restorations these
days. So he let me have two player actions for free to fiddle with but
it's obvious they won't fit. Sigh !
He had three instruments left. A nickelodeon he wants to keep for
himself, another one a customer left for restoration but he never got
to it, and ... an 88-note Steck he's considering selling. The player
works all right but clearly is leaky. Besides music it makes a clear
SSSSSSSSSSSSS sound. It's never been restored but seems in fairly
good condition.
Now, the tracker bar is very peculiar in this one. The automatic
tracker does not work through extra holes but it has small brass
"sensors" on both sides that the edge of the paper slides against.
As a piece of furniture it's design is _far_ less beautiful than
my 65-note player. He mentioned an amount around US$ 1300. Is this
a reasonable price ?
Any advice would be welcome.
