Perhaps a short trip in the micro-wave would kill any living organisms.
I've never done that since I own a laboratory oven that I use for
"conditioning" certain rolls.
It might be worth a try on one roll first to see if it works
satisfactorily. (Don't use a test cat!)

[ The test cat is reserved for cat scans. It's one of the new breed
[ of scanners. Available in nickelodeon pseudo-color or electrified
[ monotone, and also for neutered reproducers. Plays with Calico XXY
[ instrument, if one can be found. ... ;) -- Robbie
[ I'd like to discourage this experiment. Microwave ovens are
[ generally unhappy without an electrical load (the food). Its bad
[ for the magnetron (the tube that generates the microwaves. Further,
[ the energy distribution in the oven cavity is very uneven. This
[ is why a turntable is a popular addition to many modern microwave
[ ovens. I wouldn't be surprised if the peak energy levels in the
[ cavity without a real load were so outrageous that if the roll
[ actually was heated at all, parts of it would still be cold and parts
[ of it would catch fire. -- Jody
