In response to Adrian Schmidt's question about playing Welte Licensee
rolls on a T-100 Red Welte Vorsetzer, I know of only two ways to do so
without damaging the Vorsetzer:
1) Have Licensee rolls recut on Vorsetzer-width paper and to the
Vorsetzer scale; or,
2) Place a PowerRoll in the spoolbox of the Vorsetzer. According to
Wayne Stahnke, Welte-Mignon (Licensee) rolls have the same expression
coding as their German cousins, except for the absence of motor speed
control perforations (not used on the Licensee), and should play well
on the Vorsetzer or any Welte-Mignon-equipped piano.
I am currently placing orders with manufacturers for metal parts for a
special PowerRoll made to fit the German-style, original Vorsetzer's
tracker scale and spoolbox. If anyone is interested in purchasing this
special model of PowerRoll, they should contact me to place an order as
soon as possible, because these will not be made in large numbers, and
probably will not be manufactured again for some time. The price will
be $2100.
This PowerRoll will play the excellent Stahnke CD-ROM of Welte
(Licensee) selections, available to PowerRoll purchasers for $59.50,
as well as future roll images made from Licensee or German Red rolls.
I have heard that so-called Green rolls made by German Welte can also
be formatted without data loss, to play properly on the Vorsetzer or
Licensee.
Like the standard model, this PowerRoll will be easily removable in
seconds, to substitute a paper roll.
