Keith Merchant inquired about a Regina with aluminum mechanism parts.
These were first made by Lloyd Kelley in the 1960's and 1970's. I don't
know what kind of quantity, but I would suspect in the low hundreds,
but that is really a guess. They generally were of poor quality, just
like his reproduction discs.
He also made upright 15 1/2" Reginas in imported cases with dancing
dolls. We have seen several of these sold as "antiques".
Sometime in the 1980's we bought Lloyd's remaining stock, sometime
after he died, from I think his Grandson or Nephew. It included a
lot of aluminum parts that we sold to a collector in NJ.
Al Meekins, Dwight Porter, and Arthur Rose (now deceased) have also
made reproduction Reginas, but I don't know to what extent they used
aluminum parts.
One needs to be very careful about buying these reproductions,
especially the Kelley ones since they were of poor quality. But
they are often offered up as antiques, and they have nowhere near
the value.
