Hello to Jan Kees de Ruijter, I wish to thank you, on-line, for your
factual contribution to the knowledge of collectors who proudly own one
of the few remaining magnificent Remond Duwyn instruments. Like Frank
and Shirley Nix with whom you have had correspondence, we also own an
86-key Duwyn. It was restored recently by Ronald Schmuck of Mount
Forest, Ont. Canada who did a fantastic job. The wonderful sound from
our machine is not like any other I have ever heard in a "live"
performance. Prior to your note, I had found little information, in
the usual references, on the life of Duwyn. Many thanks for your
contribution.
Ronald Schmuck and I, with the assistance of Frank and Shirley, are
producing an article that will be published in the Musical Box Society
International (MBSI) Technical Journal, perhaps early next year. I am
requesting permission from the MMD and from you, to quote you,
verbatim, in the MBSI article on Remond Duwyn. Of course, you will be
acknowledged as the source of this information. Your response to this
request should be sent to Rick Cooley, at cotps@aol.com. If you have
further information you could contribute, i.e., the numbers of each
size organ produced, further details on the locations of all the
machines that remain, a source of additional music for the 86-key
organ, etc., such information would be greatly appreciated.
Any other MMD member who can expand on the historical information about
Remond Duwyn, please let us document this information in the MBSI
Mechanical Music Journal before it is lost forever.
The entire article that I wish to quote is reproduced below for your
specific approval.
Best Regards from Rick and Betty Cooley, Hockessin, Delaware, USA.
