Lubricating Electric Motors
By Bill Chapman

I see that "3-in-1 Oil" now sells a product called "Electric Motor
Oil". It is slightly thicker than the old 3-in-1 oil, but not nearly
as thick as 30 weight.

I've always used synthetic Mobil-1 30 weight at the recommendation of
a friend who researched it at University of Washington where they use
it on many of the machines in the audio and visual machines, recorders,
etc. Never had a problem. By the way, the synthetic oil isn't really
all that synthetic. Its made from oil, but some of the components that
bind with by-products of combustion are removed. I read up on it 15
years ago when my friend recommended it.
