After a fortnight's absence from Paris, I was a bit surprised reading
the following in the 980730 digest, by Larry Lobel:
> I'd like to suggest that the MMD web site should maintain a listing
> of mechanical musical museums and related spots.
>
> We frequently see inquiries and responses on the MMD from members
> traveling to far off places; instead of repeating these, why not
> collect and organize them so members can be referred to a spot on
> the web site which will direct them to the MMI sites in the specific
> geographic area they're interested in?
and to read in Jody's answer no mention of the 200 mechanical music
museums which are listed in my web site Musica Mecanica, sorted by
country or geographical area (for the USA for ex.).
This listing I made and improve thanks to numerous contributions from
various individuals and associations (especially the MBSI for the US
Museums, Texas included !!!, and the GSM for Europe) is easily
available in English, French and German, and actually well advertised
in the MMD web pages ... (so Jody was probably overworked that day when
he forgot to mention it :-). In English :

Of course, there may be mistakes or missing places, but I keep trying
to fill the gaps in this documentation. So do not hesitate to send me
an e-mail if you have any complementary information which will be
useful for everybody.
Best regards,
Philippe Rouille (Paris, France)

[ Editor's note:
[
[ Larry Lobel, in 980730 MMD, was thinking of efficiency :
[
[> ... instead of repeating these, why not collect and organize ...
[
[ Jody then commented about handling FAQs -- more efficiency.
[
[ The next Digest, MMD 980731, had a nice letter about obscure sites
[ in Texas, and a thoughtful letter from Jeffrey Borinsky in London:
[
[> We would all appreciate a comprehensive listing of MM places,
[> but these [MMD] postings have an additional purpose. Some of us
[> in far-off places enjoy meeting fellow MMDers on their travels,
[> and these requests for information alert us so that we can offer
[> suitable hospitality.
[
[ I think that all these types of information are needed:
[
[ 1. A well-maintained web site listing MM sites around the world
[ (Philippe's Musica Mechanica is a fine example);
[
[ 2. A continuing thread in MMD from which we all learn the latest
[ status of museums, etc., and of newly-discovered places;
[
[ 3. A continuing thread in MMD by which travelers get acquainted
[ with friends in other lands.
[
[ Each time that someone requests information about visiting London
[ or Paris or somewhere, I learn something new about the locality
[ and the nice people who live there!
