Some advice would be appreciated. My 1935 George Steck Ampico A/B is
equipped with an abbreviated A expression system (no re-regulators), a
B stack, and B drawer (no subdue) with an A tracker bar. While origin-
ally equipped with only a single crescendo, I've added the second one
to complete the A expression system.
For all the time I've had it, I've never been able to get both auto
reroll and electric shut off working. Always one but not the other.
I suspect the rotary "repeat switch", which is tubed right now to
provide auto repeat if selected. If Repeat OFF, repeat correctly does
not occur, but electric shut off also does not occur. I must manually
rotate the start switch to off. By reversing two tubes, I can get
automatic electric shut off, but no auto reroll.
The auto rewind signal from T8 correctly triggers valve A to engage the
reroll pneumatic, and the system will correctly reroll at high speed to
the end. That part of the system appears to be working normally.
On the B tracker bar, two signals appear to be at work -- B5 to trigger
the electric shut-off and T8 to trigger re-roll. B5 is required to
trigger Valve C which in turn triggers Valve D which starts the
electric shut-off process. However, my unit has an A tracker bar where
B5 is tubed to the Bass Fast Crescendo.
I suspect that my piano, like many in the mid-30's, was assembled out
of left-over parts from end of production couple years earlier. I find
it difficult that it would have been assembled in such a way as to
provide auto-reroll (if ON), and require manual shut-off.
Are there others on MMD with an A/B system able to provide both auto
reroll (if reroll ON) and auto electric shut off (if reroll OFF)?
Have I got an odd-ball system? Or is there some way I can set up my
unit to provide both capabilities?
Thoughts of others would be appreciated.
