Just a quick bit of information which may have appeared already here on
MMD. The Deansboro Musical Museum auction is to be held in two sections
next month: September 12-13 and 19-20, with preview each Friday.
Being personally so geographically close to the site, I will be happy
to answer any questions that I can here on the MMD. I would advise
motel and hotel arrangements preferably in Utica NY, or even as far off
as Syracuse, as you will have to cross the NY Thruway to get down to
Route 12-B.
Catalogs now are $25, and available from the auctioneers, Brzostel's
Auction service. They have an e-mail site, <bjbrzostek@aol.com> and
run a web site at
http://www.brzostek.com/
Their physical location is out of the way also -- it is on 2052 Lanson
Road, Phoenix, New York 13135.
As there are previews for the Lamplighter Shop the first week and the
Musical Museum the second week, you may well have trouble finding
overnight or weekend arrangements for yourselves. Please let me know
if you do and I will be pleased to direct you. You will be lucky in
Westmoreland, NY, Herkimer NY, Utica, NY and all the other little towns
around there, just off the NY Thruway. You will be using the
Westmoreland, NY exit from the thruway (one stop west of Utica), and
proceeding south through Clinton on Route 12-B into Deansboro.
Deansboro is a very very small town. As you proceed south on 12-B,
watching your speed and your speedometer, you will find the property
on your left just as you begin to exit the town of Deansboro. Parking
may be a problem. The phone numbers of the auctioneers are for NY
state 1-315-678-2542 or 1-800-562-0660. Faxing them right now, use
1-315-678- 2579. Essentially, there are NO really nice places to eat,
either, without returning to the city of Utica or even Herkimer, NY.
Piano enthusiasts might like to see the remains of old piano factories
in the latter area near Dolgeville, St. Johnsville and such. In this
case call into the little Chambers of Commerce who will be most pleased
to be of assistance. If you are driving, make certain that you do
observe the rapidly changing speed zones in the area.
Theatre organ buffs may find something to look at near the Stanley
in Utica. This auction will also be the restorer's opportunity of a
century. There is not enough room here to list all of Art Sanders'
materials and items that are up for the auction block.
If you wish to call the Museum directly, (if it is open) Eastern
Daylight Time, try 1-315-841-8774. The summary reference number
for the auction is #3056. Yes, the double Mills, the single Mills,
the 27-inch changers, the Wurli 153, the Seeburg KT Special and all
are still there, at least when I drove by the other day.
So get your reservations, your catalogues, bring a chair if you must,
and welcome to New York. Checking out a map, air transport into
Syracuse is fine and rent a car. Albany NY is at Exit 1, but it is
right on the Thruway also. Your exit is Thruway Exit 32. If you
arrive early, as the traffic should not be too heavy, you might want
to pass through towns and cities like Amsterdam, Gloversville (the
Glove Theater is still there), Fonda, Little Falls and so on.
So feel free to get in touch. The museum has been closed for some
time so many of the instruments may (may not) be in top condition.
As for shipping, I would suggest you look at your maps of New York
State and attempt to make private arrangements with firms even south of
Deansboro in such areas as Oriskany Falls. These will be "fun" moves.
Best wishes and good luck to all bidders.
