The recent discussion on Leslie speakers brought back to me a question
about our church organ. Recently a kind person donated a Hammond organ
which had many more functions than the Allen that we used since the
mid-60's.
Our problem is that the new organ has a built in Leslie, where as the
Allen had 2 large Leslie speakers placed in our balcony. Our pianist
complains that she cannot hear the organ, on the opposite side of the
auditorium. The local organ dealer claims that the Allen has a flute-y
sound, where the Hammond has a bass sound, and does not recommend using
the Leslie speakers from the Allen.
My question is this, does this make sense? Music is very important to
our worship services, and the rich sound is missed. If anyone has a
knowledgeable response we would appreciate it.
