Paul Torin's Wurlitzer 164
By Jim Kenney

The recording of Paul Torin's Wurlitzer 164 was made in 1976. Columbia
Records wanted a Bicentennial sound. They insisted on picking the songs
and that the organ be in perfect tune. They also added a slight reverb
sound to the recording.

The sound on the record is not a perfect rendition of the true sound
this organ put out. Paul always felt that a organ was more felt, as
well as heard, and that a organ just slightly out of tune, was part
of its charm.

After hearing the record the first time back in 76, I felt this is not
really what the organ sounds like. Now I will admit I am not a expert
on these machines, I know one thing: this machine was, and I hope still
is, a great machine, and after hearing it, all other machines just were
not as grand as Paul's ol' 164.
