Mike Ryan (MMD 980720) asked about MM centres in London and Edinburgh.
In MMD 980128 Andy Hood mentioned the Musical Museum:-
> The Musical Museum, 368 High Street, Brentford, Middlesex. TW8 OBD.
> Telephone 0181 560 8108.
>
> The museum is located in an old church and has a fine collection
> of instruments, Hupfeld, Chickering, Steinway, Aeolian etc.
> Orchestrions, Music Boxes, Street Piano etc. The first time
> I visited there I really enjoyed myself and hope to visit again.
The easy route is train from Waterloo, only a couple of platforms
away from the International section where the Eurostars from Paris
and Brussels come in. Alight at Kew Bridge and turn right leaving the
station. The Museum is about 1/3 mile along the street. It opens at
2.30 PM Saturdays and Sundays but if you go in the morning you can
visit the Kew Bridge Steam Museum which you pass on the way.
I would describe the Museum as having rather more than you can properly
examine or hear, as it has always planned for bigger premises without
ever achieving them. The guided tour lasts most of the afternoon and
you're lucky if you get one roll on each "front rank" instrument. It
does have regular specialist presentations some evenings so it's worth
phoning to see what's on.
There are no MM centres listed in Edinburgh, or so far as I know,
in the whole of Scotland.
