The mail server at foxtail.com has been receiving a great deal of SPAM
lately. In this case SPAM refers to unsolicited commercial e-mail, not
the trademarked lunchmeat product.
Last night I installed a new version of sendmail here (version 8.9.0
for those of you who are interested). This version is supposed to
filter out e-mail from known spammers and also from sources which have
their return address set to something bogus.
The reason I'm mentioning all this is that its possible that installing
this new version may cause a few of you problems sending us mail. If
you should have a problem with a rejected piece of mail from foxtail.com,
please help us out by doing the following:
1) try to resend the message to us. Hopefully I'll have fixed
whatever was wrong by the time you send it again.
2) if you can, send us the ENTIRE message you got back with the
error. The error message(s) and header can be quite helpful.
3) if re-sending to us fails, there is a "back door" way to get
an e-mail message to us. Go to the MMD web page:
http://mmd.foxtail.com/
Find the paragraph on how to subscribe. The last sentence of
the paragraph offers a subscription form you can use without
need of a working e-mail account. Click on the link -- it says
"this form".
The form claims to be a subscription form. In fact you can
send us e-mail with this form on any topic in a pinch. PLEASE
remember to type in your return address!
I will monitor the sendmail error logs carefully here to try make sure
that nothing outrageous is going on here, but your feedback is important
if messages you send to us bounce.
Thanks
Jody
