Now that the AMICA Convention is over, it is time to invite everyone to
the Musical Box Society Annual Meeting in Charlotte, NC. The entice-
ments are varied and many. In addition to 20 workshops, European
speakers, the Mart and entertainment by Dick Hyman, we will have an
opportunity to hear a real Glass Armonica concert, go to an antique
show and car museum, visit several historical sites, attend the MBSI
Museum display, as well as a public exhibit, and visit several
outstanding open houses.
It has been brought to my attention that there was a rumor at the AMICA
convention that Ted and Irene Leverett were not having an open house.
Nothing could be farther from the truth -- they are having not one, but
two days of open house, Sunday and Monday. In addition, LeRoy Plyler
will have his home open -- Where else can you see nearly all models of
New Century disc music boxes in the company of unusual phonographs and
orchestrions? The Lowery's collection is diverse and includes an
exceptional rose garden. Tony Marsico has consented to open his home
and workshop, as have Dan and Marti Wilson. Doug and Anne Fritz will
also hold an open house on both Sunday and Monday also.
Registration has been brisk and the host hotel, the Hilton Charlotte
is sold out. There has been a block of rooms at the nearby Radisson
reserved (at a lower rate) and an effort is being made to provide
shuttle service.
There is definitely something for everyone at this meeting, even a
ball game (don't ask me what sport though!). Anyone who would like
further information can contact Leo Morris <leomorris@juno.com>.
You must belong to MBSI to attend many of the functions.
Feel free to e-mail me if you have questions. I'm looking forward
to meeting many of the MMD folks. There will be some method of
identification to place on your name tags, probably on the Bulletin
Board in the Hospitality Room. Hope to see you in Charlotte over
Labor Day Weekend.
