Gulbransen Stacks "can" be a problem, but if you do them right the
first time, everything goes just fine. This is the glued-up stack,
as well as the one with the individual pneumatics.
Several years ago, I had the challenge of restoring a Gulbransen stack
(glued-up version) which had been just totally ripped apart by the
owner when he attempted a rebuild. He put everything back together
using silicone sealer! Well, I made him a new stack with individual
pneumatics, and it played like new!
Just recently, a fellow restorer in town had a glued-up stack, and he
had never attempted a restoration on any Gulbransen. I guided him
while he cut apart the stack, and the finer points of getting it all
back together again. No problems!
Don't let the bad reputation of the Gulbransen stop you from doing a
first-class restoration. Just find out the right way first !
