Hi Jody, I'd like to follow up on my comments posted in Digest 980608
under the same heading.
Last week I noticed that Brian Chesters posted a "for sale" ad in
the MMD (refer to "FS: Carved Oak Case Regina Disc Music Box", Digest
980701 entry).
Out of curiosity I e-mailed Mr. Danckaert, the buyer who had all
the problems with Mr. Chesters (see previous "Untrue Allegations"
entries), to see if the problems had been resolved. I received an
e-mail back last night from Mr. Danckaert stating that he has not
heard from Mr. Chesters.
I know that your web site is free, but how can you publish any type of
'For Sale" posting for this individual (Brian Chesters) knowing how he
treats his customers when problems arise!
I respect your web site for fostering the exchange of information
between collectors, but along with this forum there needs to be
quality control.
I hope my voice will encourage others to speak up about their "Bad
Dealings" with Mr. Chesters and others. I hope that Mr. Danckaert will
respond by giving us an update on this particular situation, and that
other readers will take the time to share their troubled experiences
with other "dealers". It takes a big person to defend himself, it
takes an even bigger person to admit he's wrong!
Mr. Chesters, what type of person are you?
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to express my views. Keep up
the great work MMD.

[ Editor's note:
[
[ The readers of MMD are now well-appraised of the dispute between
[ Mr. Danckaert and Mr. Chesters, mostly because both gentlemen
[ wrote to MMD publicly with the details. Your encouragement for
[ more dialogue is most welcome.
[
[ But "Quality Control"? Jody and I are not experts, nor have we
[ the time nor inclination to be watchdogs over the contents of each
[ day's MMD. The Digest is not censored by an editorial review board;
[ it is a forum, where everyone can speak and be heard. If the
[ speaker appears wise, or appears a fool -- well, he wrote the
[ letter himself !
[
[ The power of a newspaper, or a simple journal like MMD, lies in
[ the knowledge (and opinions, too!) presented each day. With the
[ knowledge of the Chesters-Danckaert dispute, potential buyers are
[ both forewarned and capable of bringing change.
[
[ Censoring benefits no one. It only makes the censor, and the
[ censor's friends, feel powerful.
