I am not an Ampico expert but did call Dick Howe and Jeffrey Morgan
this morning. Both were not answering the phone this morning. I hope
to have copies of the Morgan-Howe article faxed to me by one of them.
The Ampico went through several changes over the years. I have
copies of many of the patents in the 'twenties, and there were many
ideas they never incorporated into the Ampico. I am glad I at least
opened a discussion on these great reproducing pianos.
There apparently were several pianos retrofitted with the Ampico
system over the years. We know that Weber usually had Duo-Art systems
and Robbie had one with an Ampico system.
There are other brands that were not mainstays in the American Piano
Co. lineup that show up with the Ampico system. I wonder if they ever
offered a kit to piano technicians to do this or if they were all done
at the factory.
I stand corrected -- sorry, Bill. By the way, Bill does have a fine
Ampico B.
