Hello. I'm one of the lurkers who finally has something to say. I
enjoy reading the postings, even when they don't relate to anything I
collect. I think MMD is a wonderful means of sharing knowledge about
all facets of mechanical musical instruments.
My collection is modest: two players, several phonographs, two 6-inch
disc music boxes. I have several questions about my collection, but
they can wait for another posting.
I spent most of today with Marnie Lauffer Sweet, who is organizing
a new chapter of AMICA for Southwestern Pennsylvania. She has run an
announcement in the last three issues of the AMICA Bulletin and has
received some positive responses.
Today we selected August 29 and 30 for the first meeting. Tentative
plans include visits on Saturday to the Henry Clay Frick museum, in
West Overton PA, and his mansion, Clayton, in Pittsburgh. Both places
have automatic musical instruments.
On Sunday we have planned a visit to Linden Hall, built by Sarah B.
Cochran, in Dawson PA. It has a player organ. A business meeting
is planned to follow the tour and lunch at Linden Hall.
At that time, we would determine if there is enough interest to start
a chapter. If so, officers will be elected, and we'll be up and
running. The cost for the buses, lunches and tours isn't set yet.
I'll post it as soon as I know.
If anyone is interested, please contact me at the e-mail address on
this posting, or phone Marnie at 724-696-3949. I hope to hear from
lots of folks!
