Dear Jody: After reading my MMD, I decided to surf the net. Just for
grins I typed in Seeburg and hit the return button.
What I got was the Seeburg Corporation web site. They are very much
alive and are into Seeburg Satellite technology with their new Seeburg
"Millennium" jukebox. It seems the satellites can beam up to 2500 songs
into any location (5,000 with "doubler") and the machine doesn't need
CDs inside to operate. The machine is also equipped with coin and bill
slots, as well as a slot for a Seeburg credit card(!).
The web site assures its readers that it is the official Seeburg
Corporation, and it is celebrating its Centennial with the release of
the "Millennium" audio and video juke models. It also goes on to say
that Seeburg has recently been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame, and that 95% of all jukeboxes seen in the movies are Seeburgs.
E-mails were invited, so I sent them one, explaining that perhaps the
full -- and largely forgotten by the general public -- Seeburg story
should be explored and retold by the corporation during its 100-year
birthday.
I explained that there were hundreds of Seeburg coin pianos around
the world that are currently being restored, played, and enjoyed,
in addition to Seeburg jukeboxes. I also extended an invitation
to the Corporation to correspond with MMD to share information with
the members.
Looks like they're gonna be around awhile. Like another 100 years.

P.S. Seeburg's customer service representative is Mikeal DeAngelo, who
will be responsible for all Seeburg histories and documentaries. The
company invites e-mail to him also at the web site.
