Dear Ken, I am very interested in your original Shadow Waltz
recording. In the old days, hundreds of acoustical recordings were
made from early Dutch street organs (from 1910 on). We have most
of them in our KDV archive. It is possible that one of these tunes
matches your recording.
Is it possible to convert the sound digitally? Robbie or Jody could
be of assistance. I hope we will be able to get light to this matter.
Regards,
Hans van Oost, KDV, Netherlands
[ We mustn't forget Ken Vinen's original question in MMD 980626:
[
[> Are mechanical organ recordings from this era common? I have
[> been collecting records for fifty years and never found anything
[> like this before. I did find one of a hurdy-gurdy once.
[
[ Thus far we have:
[
[ 1. Evidence of early acoustic phono recordings of mechanical music:
[ (phonograph disc, Columbia E2922, circa 1914);
[ 2. Evidence that song titles don't always equate to specific
[ music/melody;
[ 3. The possibility that the organ music on the Columbia disc was
[ recorded in Holland, and
[ 4. The possibility that the song labeled 'Shadow Waltz' can be
[ truly identified.
[
[ Ken will make a cassette recording for Hans, and maybe soon we
[ will know much more. Can someone please tell the phonograph
[ record collectors about Ken's question? -- Robbie
