Hello everyone,
I'm responding to Julian Burke's message. I'm certainly no expert but
when my wife and I were seeking and ultimately bought a mahogany Regina
No. 11 in January of this year, we found that he can expect double to
triple the dollar amount he quoted to buy a Regina 15 1/2" or larger in
good condition. We know they're out there for less, but from what we
saw I don't expect he'll find *any* for under $2000. The $4500-up range
was confirmed to us by several full-time dealers/restorers whose
instruments we saw in person. Other brands we could get for less, but
we saw firsthand that Reginas command higher prices. There's an up side
to that though - I believe some makers of new discs, like Dwight Porter,
have only discs for Regina and compatible boxes. Plus, we don't often
see original discs in our antiquing trips, but when we do they're almost
always Regina 15 1/2".
Julian, you came to a good place to get help in finding the music box of
your dreams. We have some superb resources in the MMD, and I'm sure
many of our other members will help you out.
Best Regards,
Joel Hoshaw
