In MMD 980611 Bill Boulton asked for information on a Spanish Street
Barrel Piano. Because I am still waiting for some reply to my similar
question in MMD 980530 concerning an Italian Barrel Street Piano I can
contribute only very little information.
The Spanish instrument seems to be very similar to my Italian
instrument: both show the same size, both play 10 tunes, 60 notes
(Spanish) vs. 58 notes (Italian), both need a lot of restoration.
One difference seems to be that the Italian instrument shows a framed
picture and carved reliefs on the show side, whereas nothing similar is
mentioned for the Spanish instrument.
I had to pay DM 2,200 (i.e., about US$ 1,250) which seemed to be a
good price for me.
In my opinion it is worth it to do the restoration provided the barrel
and the pins on it are in good condition (as it is with my Italian
instrument). Next week a piano expert will come and see my instrument;
we will discuss the restoration of the "normal" piano part. Maybe I can
provide more information after that discussion.
Anyway, we would appreciate very much if somebody could provide
additional information about street barrel pianos in general or
specific information about the two instruments discussed here.
With greetings from Germany
