Seek Modern Reproducer Pickup for Edison Disks
By Bill Shirley

Bill Shirley here. First time MMD communicator, long time silent
observer. I've enjoyed George Bogatko's cleaned up recordings
utilizing the DcArt (Diamond Cut Audio Restoration Tools) software
located at

    http://tracertek.com

I have a few Edison Diamond Disks (hill and dale) and would like to
utilize the DcArt software with them.

Question: Do any of you phonograph experts in the MMD family know
of any reproducer/tone arm/cartridge that has been developed to
electronically reproduce the music recorded by the hill and dale
(vertical) method? An original Edison reproducer that I have has a
heavily weighted floating element containing a permanently embedded
diamond stylus and I've rationalized that this weight must be necessary
to read the undulations in the groove floor of a disk recorded by the
hill and dale method.

[ Welcome to the ranks of MMD authors, Bill! A modern stereo pickup
[ will give tolerable results with an ordinary needle for LPs; the
[ phonograph fans can probably advise where to get a better-shaped
[ tip for the Edison discs. Good luck! -- Robbie
