Solvent For Masking Tape Adhesive
By Tom McAuley

Here in the audio-visual center where I work, we have always had
one-gallon sized cans of film cleaner for cleaning the 16 mm films.
Since we quit using films several years ago, I have tried the film
cleaner on lots of other little cleaning projects. It works great for
cleaning the sticky residue left by old tapes, glues and rubber cement.
It won't harm the plastic, but it will suck all the moisture out of
your fingers, so wear rubber gloves.

I use a paper towel dampened with film cleaner to get rid of the
residue and then use a general purpose spray cleaner to finish off.
The big cans of cleaner are probably real hard to find these days, but
a well-stocked photography store should have small bottles of Kodak
Film Cleaner (CAT 195 6986).
