Playing Pianos Via Internet
By Andy Taylor

Hi Gang, This question is for the computer experts. A fellow came up
with a very interesting question in the chat room last night. He has a
Disklavier grand piano that operates from MIDI.

We can give sound commands in the chat room and our pianos will play.
But in order for that to work, we both have to have the same MIDI file
in the 'Imrc sounds' folder.

I was asked the interesting question: can one MIDI piano be played (by
hand, for example) and configured to send the information in real time
to the other piano? I do know that text can be transmitted over the
Internet fairly quickly, but I don't know if MIDI information can be
transmitted or not.

It may be possible via net phone (or some type of audio) and sending
the information an analog form. My piano will also read analog
information, but I'm not sure if his unit will or not.

Imagine someone across the country playing a MIDI CD or a keyboard,
and a piano 1000 miles away will play it!

So what do you computer guys think? Is there a way this could be done?

Best Regards
