Hi All
Several years ago I found two CDs in our public library which were
produced by Klavier in the late 80's. One was "Sergi Rachmaninov in
Concert" Klavier KCD-11008. This showcased Ampico rolls played on a
Mason and Hamiln RRB? Ampico Reproducing Grand piano. I have lost the
number of the other one but I believe that it was a similar Duo-Art
Recording on a Steinway (of course). Probably an AR. I have attempted
to locate copies of these CDs for my own collection but found that they
are no longer available. I talked with Harold Powell (Klavier) about
the CDs and got more interesting information about the pianos than was
on the CD information sheets. (Whay are they afraid to tell people that
the music was recorded from a reproducing piano performance?) Anyway
I recall that he told me that the master recordings had been sold and
would possibly be reissued by another company... Sony?
I am going through this long explanation for a couple of reasons.
1) I am interested in knowing if anyone out there knows anything
more about the (new) availability of these recordings.
2) Both CDs are, to my ears, beautiful examples of outstanding
reproducing pianos; restored to the nth degree for the recordings.
If anyone would like more information about them I will go back to the
Library and dig up the details of, at least the original Klavier CDs.
Thanks,
Pat DeWitt
