In yesterday's MMD John Phillips (thanks for the compliment, John!)
mentioned that one of my rolls would not play properly on his Aeolian
because the chain perforations were too far apart, causing unwanted
repetitions on some long notes.
The roll in question was cut a long time ago on John and Bill Malone's
Playrite perforator in Turlock, CA. Shortly after it was released I
stopped using the Malone's services because, quite accidentally you
understand, some of my rolls began to appear in the Playrite catalog.
I switched to Richard and Janet Tonnesen of Richardson, TX, who own
and operate the best perforator on the planet. They are simply wonderful
people (I have never seen Janet without a huge smile on her face!) who
know piano roll production inside out. In all the years I have done
business with them there has never been a problem of any kind.
I too have a few Playrite-cut rolls with the same annoying fault on
chain perforations. However now the factory has burned down there
should be no further repetition, so to speak.
