[ Adrian is 15 years old, and he enjoys all sorts of organ music.
[ He is active with GSM, the German mechanical-music society.
Dear MMD readers, I am now trying to make a list of all available
recordings of mechanical musical instruments. Most of my own CDs
are from "MCO Musikproduktionen".
The producer of this label is Wilfried Hoemmerich, the chairman of
Club Deutscher Drehorgelfreunde e.V (Club German Barrel-organ Friends).
This label offers approximately 150 different LPs or MCs and 40
different CDs. The CDD web site is at http://www.bubis.com/cdd/ .
I have nearly all (except 3) of the CDs with music from band-organs,
but I have no CD of barrel-organ music. This is the biggest European
company I know. The CDs cost each DM20 and the cassettes or LPs are
DM15. If you live in Great Britain these records are sold at the St.
Albans organ museum, and from there you can mail-order them. I think
that could be cheaper but I am not sure.
I know of another company in the USA, "Carousel Music"; they sell CDs
of all styles of (mostly) Wurlitzer band-organs. I have 4 of these
CDs. This company has its own home page and they use online-ordering
with your Master Card or VISA card. But if you live in Europe you must
check the processing-fees beforehand.
Here is a request to you, dear readers: is it possible that someone
who lives in the Netherlands could send me an actual list of records
from the museum in Utrecht. That would be very helpful. Thank you.
Now to the system how I can answer requests about the list. I have a
vision like this:
If somebody knows something of a record, please send me an e-mail. The
information should be: title, price, play time, company address, and
the recorded instruments and the most popular titles and the order
number.
I will make several Word files, each file for a type of mechanical
music, like barrel-organ music or band-organ music. If I get a request
about a type of music style, I will send the list of this kind. So it
is possible to answer a request quickly with a full list, and the files
are not too big.
If someone cannot read Word files (*.doc) I will send him the list by
fax or I write the list in an e-mail. I will look for a good handling
of this problem.
Glossary:
"Die Drehorgel": I think in English it is called "barrel organ". It
is an organ who works by the power of an organ-player who cranks the
organ.
"Die Konzertorgel": in English it is called "band-organ". A bigger
barrel organ with more pipes and plays drums. Works by machine power.
"Die Tanzorgel": Sometimes translated as "dance-organ", but often
called "Belgian band-organ". Most dance-organs were built by Decap and
Mortier. They play pipes, sax, accordion and so on...
If you mean such organs use the word "dance-organ" in order to avoid
misunderstandings.
If someone has information of recordings in a prospectus, please send
it to me; I will use the information for the list and send you the
prospect back (really, I promise).
My address is below. I hope you will send your information to me,
in order to make a good list. I look forward to getting your first
requests. Bye !
