Hi All -- I recently was asked to look over several instruments in
various stages of repair for a local collector. 'Collector', in this
case, means one who amasses lots and lots of pretty much anything
simply because he liked that which he purchased without learning a
whole lot about the history of what he currently owns. (Please
understand that this is not a criticism, but rather a description that
should help the reader understand the care and maintenance shown to
these instruments.)
In any event, I'm looking (on this gentleman's behalf) to find out all
the information (age, value, rarity, desirability, etc.) I can about
several instruments in his collection. They are:
Seeburg Model "L" (late) Nickelodeon, serial number 165063,
restored 15 years ago, Plays well but softly, cabinet in very good
original shape, original stained glass
Operator's Piano Co. Coinola "Cupid", serial number 8853,
restored 10 years ago, Plays very well, cabinet in very good original
shape, original stained glass
Regina style 8A 27" coin operated double comb disc box (no changer
mechanism present), serial number 30351, Represented on page 203 in
Encyclopedia, Very good cabinet
Nelson Wiggen Nickelodeon (couldn't open or play it; hard to say about
the condition) This nickelodeon is not represented in the Encyclopedia
Erste Prager Musikwerke- und Orchestrion Fabrik Diego Fuchs Prag
(There is one reference to this instrument (or rather, manufacturer)
in the section on miscellaneous instruments, page 705)
The gentleman also has three barrels (six tune) that are clearly
labeled "Made in Spain" and are marked "FAVENTIA".
Amazingly, he believes he has several more instruments not unlike those
listed above, but he doesn't know exactly where they are located in all
his other stuff.
Any information that anyone can give me relative to anything about the
above instruments would be of great help to me. I look forward to your
prompt replies. You may also e-mail me privately at my address:
