Hi! I'm back from my trip! It was the first time that I had ever
traveled overseas and I had a wonderful time! I enjoyed meeting some
of our European MMD'ers namely Philippe Rouille, Claus Kucher, Julian
Dyer, Jeffrey Borinsky, Dan Wilson, and Paddy Handscombe. I wish to
express my thanks and appreciation to these people for their hospital-
ity, and to all others who assisted me in some way, or who I met during
my travels.
I visited mechanical music exhibitions or collections in Paris, Vienna
and London and was very impressed with the variety of machines at the
each location. It would be too much to describe them all here, but I
did take a ton of pictures which I just got back yesterday.
Upon my return, I was confronted with a lengthy agenda of things that
_had_ to get done ASAP. After being gone for two weeks, I discovered
that my lawn, with the help of persistent rains, was tall enough to
conceal an elephant! In addition to returning to my full-time job, I
needed to update my web page, and there were three projects waiting for
me from my home-based business. Most work and domestic matters have
now received attention, but I still have a lengthy "to do" list. (FYI
to fans of the Player Piano and Mechanical Music Exchange: the web site
has been updated and is accepting new ads).
I was rather surprised to see that my message from London ended up in
the MMD since I sent it to the rollreq address. I logged on at Cafe
Internet using the Telnet option. The connection was _extremely_ slow
(I didn't ask what the modem speed was) and the shift key for uppercase
letters didn't work very well. It was nice to connect to my e-mail,
but the slowness of the system made it futile to correct or revise
messages.
At any rate, it was a great trip and I would love to return to Europe
sometime. Thanks again to everyone.
