Wurlitzer 164 Sound Files
By George Bogatko

All: Wurlitzer 164 Band Organ sound files now at

    http://www.intac.com/~gbogatko

There were three Wurlitzer 164's made. This one was built around 1928,
and shipped around 1937. At the time this recording was made, it was
owned by Paul and Meryl Torin. Named "The General" (on the record) it
deserves it's name. It's about two shades of loud: crushing and
stupefying.

The recording was Columbia M 34159, and is long out of print. I found
my copy at Colony Records. I've included 4 tunes here that represent
what the beast sounded like. These sound files are on the web page for
purposes of education and scholarly research only. They are not to be
sold or reproduced.

( I've heard rumors that the last it was seen was in somebody's back
yard next to a swimming pool, not properly attended to, and probably
home to various fauna and vermin by now. Undoubtedly the new owner got
bored with the same roll over and over and never quite figured out how
to change it -- but it sure looked pretty. (Maybe it was painted
flamingo pink). )
