'Amsterdamned'
By Philip Jamison

I sat through the 1988 film 'Amsterdamned' this evening. In this one,
a fiend hacks up people from his underwater lair in the city's canals.

The climax is an homage to the boat chase in 'Puppet On A Chain',
even to the bright yellow speed boat. They had a bigger budget on this
one, though. The highlight is the destruction of a draaiorgel being
pushed along the street. This organ is shown earlier from the front
and looks very good. It does appear phony from the rear, however. I
heard Johnny Verbeeck built one for a film once, so maybe this was it.

The organ had a lot of pipes and was playing my favorite tune,
'Canals of Amsterdam (Aan de Amsterdamse Grachten)'. A lousy movie,
but great pierement action!
