Hi Gang, I am in need of advice. Dare I say the dirty word
"refinishing"?
I have obtained an old 1922 Neuman Bros. player piano that is painted
green. The main problem is that the top, lid, front and bottom panel
are ruined. The panels had been stored on a very wet place, and have
come apart and warped.
Using my sander and table saw, I have modified some panels off of some
derelict Fosters to fit. Looking at the piano, you can't tell these
panels came from another piano; it looks very nice.
I haven't stripped the replacement pieces or the piano case yet, but
I am almost certain that the panels will not match the piano case in
color. Does anyone have any suggestions?
It doesn't have to be exact, but presentable. I certainly don't
want to paint it. Despite what this old piano has seen, It has an
impressive sound. That is why I decided to do something with it.
I have an old three-tier Baldwin action, that lines right up with the
stickers. I also will have to find the metal abstracts that goes with
this action. It would be better if I could find a two-tier Baldwin
action -- the three-tier action poses some problems (the top row is
too high).
This old piano will be built from parts. Original? No.
Enjoyable and usable? Yes!
Best Regards
