Hi to all, in Digest 980408 Karl Ellison made a couple of comments
about the '98 AMICA convention that I thought I should talk about.
First and most important! The convention is in Niagara Falls, Canada,
not Buffalo. If you go to Buffalo, New York, you will be very sur-
prised. The general public will not know what you are talking about.
Of course the people at Q.R.S. would send you in the right direction.
I'm glad there is such enthusiasm on Karl's part about the workshops.
We are hoping to have something of interest for everyone. We have had
a recent disappointment, though. Paul Monachino has informed me that
the P.T.G. (Piano Tuner's Guild) has scheduled a convention in Boston,
MA for the same time as our convention, and he has been committed to
giving a tour of the Mason & Hamlin factory in Boston. He can not
bi-locate, as Padre Pio did in Italy, so he has informed us that he
will not be able to participate in our convention, although he was
looking forward to the opportunity.
In place of Paul Monachino, a local piano technician, Bill Hatzen-
buhler, will be giving a workshop of "Grand Piano Action Regulation"
Bill has been in the piano tuning business for 30+ years, and has
rebuilt many player grands over the years. I'm certain that he will
be able to give an entertaining and enlightening talk.
Terry Smythe sent to you a note about his workshop "Music on the
Internet". We are actively addressing his need for a computer with
sound capabilities and modem, and hopefully will have secured one by
the time you read this note on the MMD.
Bob Berkman's Q.R.S-capades will be a full-fledged program on
Friday night.
The workshops will be arranged so that everyone should be able to
see their favorites without problems, and will be repeated at the
discretion of the presenter. Once the itinerary has been completely
finalized, I will send a copy to the MMD for publication.
If you have any questions about the convention, please feel free to
contact me.
Thanks a lot!
