That was a great story about the exploding fridge.
I did not know that sulphur dioxide (very different to sulfur dioxide
<grin>) was ever used as a refrigerant. Anyway SO2 would give you a
shower of sulphurous acid; for rotten eggs you need hydrogen sulphide
(H2S).
Be thankful that the refrigerant was not ammonia or butane, both of
which have been widely used.
