Wonderful to be able to welcome John Farrell to MMD. With the
exception of some James P Johnson, much Fats Waller and a little of
Jimmy Blythe, there is a subtle difference between actual 1920s jazz
playing and modern "traditional" jazz piano which is immediately
apparent on playing a John Farrell roll.
This is music which, pretty well, was never on commercial roll
before the first Jazzmaster releases in the middle 1970s and is
instantly recognizable as playing of the present. It's like we have
our very own "race" roll label. One day I want to get John improvising
on Gershwin themes onto Duo-Art ... but that's another story.
