O-roll Orchestrion Questions
By Bernt Damm

Hello all, I have a few questions regarding the construction of my
O-roll orchestrion. Maybe Art Reblitz or anyone with in-depth knowledge
can help me.

I am about to begin the plans for my orchestrion. The spool frame is
almost done, I have all the parts for it except one gear which still
need machining. I have also purchased a test roll and two other rolls
from Gottschalk Music.

Next I have to decide on what will go into the instrument and after
reading Craig Brougher's book and some other information (there are no
such instruments in South Africa), I still cannot exactly puzzle out
some of the functions.

Here are the questions:

1: There are 3 instruments: piano, principle (pipes etc.) and
secondary (xylophone etc.). The same tracker holes are used for all 3.
If principle and secondary are off, the piano plays in that section.
If principle only is on, must the piano turn off in that region or does
it just play along in tandem?

2: If secondary only is on, must the piano turn off in that region or
does it just play along in tandem?

3: If principle and secondary are on, do both play or does secondary
override principle or vice versa?

4: If one were to have only a principle instrument, no secondary,
would the results be acceptable too and how would one tube the on/off
functions?

If anyone can help, please post to MMD as well as MY NEW ADDRESS since
I have not been receiving MMD recently due to some problems
