In tuning loud instruments, one should keep in mind listening to loud
organ pipes play for extended periods eventually will take it's toll on
one's hearing.
In tuning Band Organs, I use ear protectors similar to those that are
available for using chain saws, and other noisy equipment. Even with
the ear protectors in place, I can hear the beats well enough to get
the tuning correct and hopefully prevent ear damage.
There seem to be a lot of accidents in moving pianos. I had a Steinway
model O grand slide down a flight of stairs and pin me against a wall.
The canvas handles on the moving board pulled out of the frame, leaving
the assistants helpless to grasp the piano. I have never completely
recovered, and it has been many years since the accident.
