In restoring my Kelsworth Simplex upright, I tried using the
replacement pneumatic valves supplied by the Player Piano Company.
I found that they were of varying tolerances, and the clearances they
created between the bottom and top seat were inconsistent, thereby
providing a sloppy response. In addition, the wood stem was not well
fastened to the button.
Has any one else experienced this problem? Or did I miss something.
I tried using the removable spacer disk between the top seat and the
valve facing but that did not permit the top seat from setting into the
wooden seat in the valve chamber properly and evenly. I ended up with
working valves and a box of expensive unused replacement valves.
