On the subject of piano horror stories, a particular incident stands
out in my mind from my days at a local music store.
In our piano showroom stood a beautiful brand new Eavestaff upright,
with a shiny black polyester finish. As I recall, it had a price tag
of about 2500 pounds (UK) and was supplied by the manufacturer on a
sale-or-return basis. After a few months it hadn't sold, so we
requested that it was taken away again.
A couple of removal men turned up the following day with a large tail-
lift van and proceeded to load the instrument on board. However, as
the tail lift was raised, the piano toppled over into the road, causing
a spectacular amount of damage. You should have seen the look of em-
barrassment on their faces as we all stood and observed their efforts
from within the showroom!
