Yamaha Software Music Synthesizer for Win95
By Claus Kucher

I have found and downloaded a trial version of software-synthesizers
for Pentium-machines on the web page of Yamaha

   --> http://www.yamaha.co.uk

(Pay attention to the file size of more than 5.5 MB -- it will
*not* run under Windows-NT but does it fine on Windows-95 and
Windows-98/beta2.)

First testing showed that the cheapest sound card (or a codec on the
main board) will then provide a very impressive sound, but forget of
running other applications: the load for the CPU is nearly 100%. More
specifications are below.

S-YXG50 XG Soft Synth - System Requirements and Specifications

Compatible CPU: Intel MMX equipped IBM PC (or compatible), or
standard PC with CPU speed in excess of 166MHz. Due to the anomaly in
the Cyrix 686 range of processors with regards to their floating point
math co-processor, some functions of the S-YXG50 will be disabled.

Operating System: Windows 95 (standard or OSR2).

Memory: 16 Mbytes (32 Mbytes or more strongly recommended).

Main Specifications:
 Voice Data: AWM2 custom technology
Wavetable Data Size: 2MB (using highly-optimised compression technology)
 Multi-Timbrality: 16 parts
Polyphony: 128 notes max (can be scaled by the user)
Voice Set: 676 melody voices (fully programmable) +
42 SFX voices (fully programmable) +
21 drum kits/SFX kits (fully programmable)

 Synth Modes: XG / GM / TG300B

S-YG20 Soft Synth
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The S-YG20 offers a superb software synth for people with low spec
computers. Coupling real-time reverb effects and hundreds of superb
Yamaha sounds, it makes a great MIDI playback system for anyone with a
Pentium PC.

The reverb effect can be switched in or out using the control panel,
and as all Yamaha software synths are driver applications you can use
them with Windows 95 games and music applications.

S-YG20 works with all 16-bit sound cards, under win95.

IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE Due to the floating point mathematics processor
capabilities of the Intel range of Pentium and Pentium Pro based
processors, the Yamaha software synthesizers will not function on
non-Intel based machines such as Cyrix 686+ based systems. AMD K6
processors have been tested and work fine with this application. If
you are unsure about your CPU capabilities or type, please download the
trial version and test this on your computer (see notes).

System Requirements -- Intel P75Mhz CPU (P100 recommended or higher),
16MB of RAM, Windows 95 (all revisions supported), 16-bit MPC level 2
compliant sound card, speakers for sound card, 3MB of hard disk space
for installation. MIDI compatible playback application (such as media
player or any professional sequencer) for MIDI playback under Windows
95. File size 2.3 MB Delivery method Post or E-mail.

RRP =L=15.00 inclusive of VAT

S-YXG50 XG Soft Synth
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The S-YXG50 offers unparalleled synthesis ability in software.
Coupling 3 parallel 24 bit effects busses with over 40 different
effects types (chorus, reverb, delay, compressor, EQ, distortion,
overdrive, amp sim, phaser, flanger, etc), it is also fully
programmable as a synth with multiple parameters.

The effects processors are also fully programmable (up to 16 parameters
per effect), It fully supports TG300B, XG and GM modes and it can be
scaled to 128 note polyphony, with overhead on the CPU also scalable.
Direct sound is supported, and with a fast enough cpu, so is MIDI music
in Win95 games applications (Pentium P200 minimum).

To program the synth we recommend using XGEdit, which is available from
the software downloads section in the XG part of this website. The
synth section also features a fully resonant filter on every channel
(up to 16) and multi-stage envelopes for all voices. Individual drum
sounds can have up to 3 DSP's applied to them and also support the
filters (individual per drum voice) and the envelope stages.

Although the software is optimised for MMX based machines it now runs
on non-MMX machines (P166 or Higher recommended) Playback at 11khz
works on 100Mhz Intel Pentium machines, 22khz on 120Mhz or higher and
44.1 on 166Mhz or higher. Effects can be switched in or out using the
control panel. Works with all 16-bit sound cards, under Win95.

IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE : Due to the floating point mathematics processor
capabilities of the Intel range of Pentium and Pentium Pro based
processors, the Yamaha software synthesizers will not function on
non-Intel based machines such as Cyrix 686+ based systems. AMD K6
proccessors have been tested and work fine with this application. If
you are unsure about your CPU capabilities or type, please download the
trial version and test this on your computer (see notes).

System Requirements -- Intel P166Mhz CPU (P200 recommended or P166MMX),
16MB of RAM (32MB recommended), Windows 95 (all revisions supported),
16-bit MPC level 2 compliant sound card, speakers for sound card, 5MB
of hard disk space for installation. MIDI compatible playback
application (such as media player or any professional sequencer) for
MIDI playback under Windows 95. File size 4.3 MB Delivery method Post
or E-mail.
