This is in partial response to Ed Gaida's: "This should come under the
heading, If you haven't run across one yet, you're gonna". And John
Tuttles "I was always under the impression that the pistons were made
of a carbon compound. The book calls the substance Delrin. Does anyone
know what Delrin is?"
Delrin is plastic. I work for Standex Electronics, a manufacturer of
electronic components. We use Delrin to mold many items. Among them
are what we call tuning sticks, or aligning tools that adjust the
variable RF inductors we manufacture.
You made reference to Dale Electronics, Dale is a competitor of sorts
to my company, they manufacturer of magnetic components. As far as I
knew, they always specialized in the manufacture of electronic
components, not systems, such as the one described. (They even tried
to recruit me to work for them at one time!) Could it be that Dale
just supplied the windings that are used for the solenoids? Is their
name on the system or just on some of the components in the system?
Dale was purchased by a larger electronics company, Vishay, a few years
ago. At about the same time, they purchased several other manufacturers
of axial leaded inductors. These other companies have all been absorbed
by Dale / Vishay. Vishay now uses the Dale company name to market many
different electronic components. If you would like further information
on this company please let me know.
