Ed, We presently have a Bacigalupi Organ that we are trying to restore.
We have made a new case and built a new pump (The lower part of the case
had been in a flood). The case was painted white with red trim. The
owners wanted a replacement case stained with natural finish. We used
Baltic birch instead of the original plywood. The facade is being
restored by an artist.
Now the problem! The pipes were all marked with a musical note. The
front row has 11 notes, with the 2 larger pipes supported by the case.
The back row of 12 pipes had some stopped pipes and some open pipes.
They did not appear to be in any special order. When the time came to
tune the pipes we found that they could not be tuned as marked. We
know the organ was worked on before we got it. We desperately need
to know the scale of this little organ! We also need to know how many
pipes were open and how many stopped.
The tune sheet was missing from the lid, but it still has a somewhat
water damaged operating instructions sheet. I think we have determined
a couple of tunes: Man on the Flying Trapeze, Loveliest Night of the
Year, and possibly Casey.
The address on the label is L. Bacigalupi Organ Co.
2026 No. Chico Ave.
El Monte, Calif.
The Encyclopedia of Mechanical Music has the history of the family
starting on Page 806.
